Recovery Zone

Recovery is defined as a return to a normal state of health, mind or strength. There are two categories of recovery; immediate or short-term recovery and long-term recovery. Both are essential components of managing repetitive physical stress from training, preventing injuries, improving performance and enhancing overall health.

Short-term recovery (often referred to as active recovery) occurs immediately after exercise in the cool-down phase and may continue during the following days. Long-term recovery is built into a training program and includes days off, modifying workouts and adding other modalities of training.Woman foam rolling on Trigger Point roller

Exercise is designed to challenge or stress the body’s systems to stimulate positive change and growth, yet the only way to achieve those results is to first recover from the stress.

The goal of the Recovery Zone at Club Greenwood is to enhance your fitness experience by providing you with the tools and resources you need to recover and be ready for your next workout. We’ve incorporated new technologies in recovery that will help you gain the most benefit from your workout, improve performance and relieve stress and tension from your everyday life.

Each member, from the elite athlete to the weekend warrior and new user, will benefit from the Recovery Zone. Athletes and frequent users want to bounce back quickly and prepare their muscles for the next day’s workout. Members who sit excessively due to work or travel, need increased circulation. Aging member’s muscles may become tight and lose flexibility creating minor aches and pains that need healing. And the multi-tasking parent just wants a little time for themselves.

The 800 square foot Recovery Zone is unique to Club Greenwood and includes Hydromassage Lounge Chairs, NormaTec Boots, Hyperice Compression, TRUE Stretch Cages and Trigger Point Accessories.

NormaTec PULSE Recovery Boots are dynamic compression devices employing three key techniques – pulsing, distal release and gradients – via a patented pulse technology to enhance blood flow and speed recovery.

People sitting in Normatec BootsInstead of using static compression (squeezing) to transport fluid out of the limbs, NormaTec Pulse Technology uses dynamic compression (pulsing). The pulsing action more effectively mimics the muscle pump of the legs and arms greatly enhancing the movement of fluid and metabolites out of the limbs after a workout.

NormaTec Pulse Technology uses hold pressures (gradients) to keep fluids from being forced in the wrong direction similar to veins and lymphatic vessels that have one-way valves preventing fluid backflow. Because of this enhancement, instead of tapering pressure off, the system can deliver maximum pressure in every zone.

Because extended static pressure can be detrimental to the body’s normal circulatory flow, sequential pulse technology releases the hold pressures once they are no longer needed to prevent backflow. By releasing the hold pressure (distal release) in each zone as soon as possible, each portion of the limb gains maximal rest time without a significant pause between compression cycles. Sessions vary in length and may be used pre or post-workout various times per day.

Ice and heat are two commonly used tools for recovery and healing. Hyperice uses both techniques in an easy to use sleeve for the back, knee, shoulder and utility (ankle, wrist, etc.). Venom Back is a digitally connected heat and vibration wearable that soothes and loosens achy muscles. The ICT Knee/Shoulder/Utility sleeve use ice compression featuring patented air-release technology.
